Questionnaire Response
Ian Bushie - Keewatinook
1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?
I decided to run for office to make a difference and to ensure that our people’s voices are heard and respected and to ensure that our communities are treated fairly and equitably.
2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?
I am a member of the Hollow Water First Nation based on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg. I have served my community as chief, councilor, community program director and chairperson of various boards and committees. I have operated my own business in Hollow Water for over 20 years and currently employ 9 community members full time. I am an experienced negotiator and facilitator and pride myself on being a role model for members of our nation. I welcome the opportunity to work for my community, our riding and the people of Manitoba.
3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?
The biggest issues facing our community are healthcare, education and child welfare. I want to focus my attention on reducing the amount of children in care living outside of their communities.
4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
I’m excited to be running for a party led by Wab Kinew!
