Questionnaire Response

Tanjit Nagra - Fort Richmond

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

I decided to run as a result of the changes I was seeing to the education system. I saw education become more expensive, with less investment from the Pallister government. In addition, supports for students were cut, including ACCESS Programs. There were also cuts to the incentives which kept students in Manitoba after graduation from post-secondary. With the K-12 review underway, I worry about what is coming down the pipe next. In my opinion, investing in education is one of the best investments for our future.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I have participated within the Fort Richmond community as a student, volunteer and professional and I’m proud to call the community my home. I understand and have listened to the needs of people in the community and I have  experience representing over 23,000 people while President of the University of Manitoba Students’ Union (UMSU). I will work hard to be a strong representative for Fort Richmond.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

Community
Health care
Education
Sustainability
These are important to me and my neighbours in Fort Richmond. It’s important to advocate for an efficient health care system where our front line workers are involved in decision making, as well as an affordable and accessible education system for all. Furthermore, it’s important that we invest in community infrastructure and transit projects all while investing in clean energy and leaving our planet better for the next generation.
