2019 Manitoba Election

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

We need to have strong voices of people who are passionate about advocacy and wanting to help others and I bring that to the table. It is something I’ve demonstrated through any job that I’ve done – working to help improve people’s lives.  Representing the NDP in the Manitoba election is another way that I can stand up for people, for their issues and be a voice to help my community.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I am a strong and determined woman who is passionate and articulate, able to speak what people need to hear, bring their issues forward and share what their concerns are. I speak out for what is right even if it is not the popular opinion and I am a voice for those who do not feel they have a voice, speaking out against injustice.  I understand the need to work together for the common good and towards goals that will improve our communities. I believe that by working together we can make the changes necessary to improve our lives, our communities and to ensure our continued livelihood.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

Health care – focusing on prevention to help reduce our health care costs and demanding the federal government act on universal pharmacare. We also need to continue to fund personal care homes and public home care so that seniors can age in dignity in their communities.

 

Education is important because our children are the future. We need to invest in our children and in their education so that they can get the skills they need for the jobs of the future. We need smaller class sizes in K-3 so that students receive the individual attention they need early on and get a good foundation of learning in reading, math, and sciences.

 

Infrastructure, especially improving roads and cell service, is tremendously important. The roads are our lifeline and a key to our economy for all industry.  Cell service is important especially for emergency services. Many of our communities rely on volunteer fire departments. If the volunteers cannot be reached, they cannot respond to the emergency when needed. Access to cell service is important for all of our communities.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

From a young age, I learned the values of honesty, integrity and hard work.  Those values have served me well and have become the foundation of who I am.  I hope voters choose me because I’m a strong voice. I’m not only willing to speak up, I walk the walk. I will do what needs to be done to help people and to build a better Manitoba for all of us.
