1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

I believe that local voices need to be heard in local choices. I am running to represent the voice of my region that is calling for sustainable and effective public services, responsible fiscal and ecological management, addressing poverty, supporting parents by offering more childcare positions, and by empowering local businesses, farmers, communities, and municipal leaders.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

Voters should always take a look at the local candidates and ensure that their values are reflected in how the candidate behaves and in the priorities that they emphasize. I am a local teacher and father who strives to help those around me grow. As a teacher I have experienced first-hand how Bill-28 is hindering the local voice of teachers and school divisions. Seeing the introduction of Bill-26 (an amendment to the Public Schools’ Act) before the K-12 education review received any feedback has me concerned with how meaningful this public consultation was. I believe in local voice, good stewardship of our ecosystems, proper fiscal management, more collaborative politics, and supporting families, children, and communities. If you believe in the same things, I humbly ask for your vote.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

As Morden-Winkler’s MLA I will represent my constituents and their concerns:

• Availability of childcare and home care
• Empowering local voices
• Repealing Bill-28
• Proper management of our resources (fiscal and ecological)
• Providing adequate supports for people living with a disability
• Making politics more collaborative

My wife and I are lucky enough to have a fantastic public daycare for our daughter but many parents are not able to find a daycare spot and others aren’t able to afford a spot. Although some families make it work by having one parent at home, this is not an option for everybody. We need to empower families by offering the public supports that will allow them to have a choice in how they raise their children. Empowering local voices means empowering families as well as municipalities; empowering school divisions as well as seniors. As Morden-Winkler’s MLA, I will be your voice in the legislature, advocating for the change that you need to make your community a better place.  

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

As a supporter of local voice, I believe that every one should vote. If you are not sure if you can get to the voting station, phone your RO office as they have a number of supports that they can offer to you to make it accessible.
