Questionnaire Response
Lorena Mitchell - La Vérendrye
1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?
I am running because I could not stand by and watch our province continue in the current direction. We have a government that is doing things only for itself. The tax payer deserves better and going after healthcare and social program we need is unacceptable. They have hampered Jobs by a late start for contracts for infrastructure in spring then leaving 1.9 billion on the table in Fed money that would have bolstered the Jobs. We are now seeing the week Job number as a result. Pallister is going after education next. He sold MTS now a private company does not care the same about development and connecting Manitoba communities. We will sell off hydro next where does this end? He is costing us money by interfering in MPI ( which he may also privatize) and with the Unions. He likes to spend our money on court battles with the Feds and Unions this is counter productive and costly.
2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?
I am and have been a social advocate for 11 years and I will work hard to see that Laverendrye is well represented with a government in place that listens to the people and there MLA’s. I do believe there is a better way buy working with industry to come with a plan for the betterment of Manitoba. In my area we need to resolve our boarder RM’s issues of Healthcare currently on a case by case basis. We need to address Doctors in our area. We need to look at connecting our communities like Sandilands with a paved road. 59 hwy that is never flooded should consider twining this one right to the boarder. It would increase traffic and commerce to St Pierre and St Malo and we would have a safe route in spring to the US.
Support our Nurses and Doctors and Home care workers, they have been absolute hero’s through all the changes that have come down over the last 3 years. This is a healthcare system that is under stress an we need to fix this issue.
3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?
– Healthcare in the region needs to be fixed with more funding to share the load and help our healthcare hero’s
– more seniors homes not shuttling them off to urban centers or languishing in hospital beds with no outlets
– connecting communities with cell service
-Paved road for Sandilands
– upgrades for highway 59
-resolve the case by case Healthcare in Piney.
4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
I have been in Renewable energy for 11 years and also believe we need more incentives for going green. This create micro grids for Hydro which is more stable power in the rural areas. We would have less brown outs and create a stronger grid. It is like having mini power stations at regular points vs trying to bring from only one source. We need to create a Manitoba business bank so our business are not subjected to high interest borrowing creating a negative impact on business. We need to address Education funding and how the funding is coming into the school divisions. I would like to see a quick care in Vita with formal way of getting seen same day.
