Questionnaire Response
Lisa Naylor - Wolseley
1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?
I have served as the Ward 4 Trustee of Winnipeg school division since 2014. I’ve served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance and Personnel Committee and on the Executive of the Manitoba School Boards Association. Previously, I have been on the board of several community organizations including Klinic Community Health Centre and the UWSA daycare board.
In addition to volunteerism and political service, I have had a 30 year career working in community organizations and community health mostly as a mental health counsellor. As a counsellor I know that there is only so much I can do to help people who have experienced trauma or who are struggling due to social systems that make their lives more difficult – like racism, poverty, or other forms of systemic oppression. My desire to change the social systems that are the root cause is what motivated me to run for election the first two times as school trustee and why I am running now to be your next MLA.
2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?
As your NDP candidate, I bring decades of frontline experience working with people, including the most marginalized people in our society. I also have the experience with budgets, policies and governance that I have gained working as your school trustee that has prepared me to do the same at the provincial level of government. I hope people will visit my website at LisaNaylor.ca to learn more about my experience and values.
3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?
Health care, Education and Environment are the top three issues in this election. However, underlying all of that is my passion for my neighbourhood – for helping the West End, West Broadway and Wolseley address the poverty, housing and addiction issues that have been ignored by provincial government for too long.
4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
The election is about you choosing the direction you want to see this province go. A vote for me and a vote for the NDP is a vote for fixing the health care system, having safer and healthier communities, and a good life for all of us. I’m excited to be part of a political party that has nominated many diverse candidates and is determined to increase the representation of women, people from newcomer communities and Indigenous people in the Legislature.
