Questionnaire Response

Kevin Nichols - Roblin

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

I decided to run because the Greens asked me and I received numerous emails and calls from constituents in the area asking me to run.  I also want to ensure people have a better choice, a choice to vote Green.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I am the only candidate ready to take action on issues that need to be addressed now, not later.  I am the only candidate who can truly represent the people in the area as I belong to a party that does not whip votes.  Greens will also represent the people and respect our core values.  Any decisions will be based on scientific evidence, facts presented in studies and the electorates wishes while at the same time respecting Green values.

As I have told people at the door:

  • I will not make promises I cant keep
  • I will put people and the environment first
  • I will work hard for each and every one of you
  • I will never make up an answer to gain your vote, it will be the truth as harsh as it may be
  • I will base decisions on policy grounded in facts and science
  • I will put the people in my riding first, ahead of the party
  • I will maintain the core values of Greens

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

Health care is the number one issue on peoples minds.  The gutting of the health care system and the move to privatization has many people in my area concerned.  Healthcare has always been key for me, having suffered many years with Crohns disease.  I cant thank the healthcare professionals enough.  Working in the safety field and noting the changing climate in our world, the closing of the ER’s will have devastating effects in the event of a catastrophic event in our community.  In the Charleswood area I am hearing people say they want to keep Charleswood Green, that is also important to me.  Environmental issues and changing the way we interact with our environment is paramount to a sustainable economy.

Putting people first is important to me, ensuring the well-being of the people in my district is, in my opinion, one of the key roles of an MLA.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

This campaign has been better than ever before, at the door I am hearing  people want change.  The area has been blue a long time, some of the comments I hear at the door are pretty derogatory towards the PC’s.  People in the area want change, they are tired of the same thing over and over.  I have seen our area deteriorate, I have seen decisions made by both the NDP and PC’s that are detrimental to the people of Manitoba.  I love the area I represent and love listening to what people have to say.  It is time for change, it is time to make history in the Roblin District, its time to vote Green.
