2019 Manitoba Election

Edna Nabess - Fort Rouge

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

I want to make a difference for my generation as well as for my children and grandchildren generations.  We need to address today’s issues in a balanced way without putting our future generations in jeopardy. As a proud mother of five and grandmother of twelve, I want to make our province, country and world a better place for them.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I believe my life experiences will serve me well in representing the great people of Fort Rouge. I was born and raised in a large family with very little in terms of material things. We worked hard together as a family and were taught to be self sufficient.  I have owned and operated my own family businesses – most recently White Feather CreeAtions in the Pas for 20 years and then opened my Winnipeg store CreeAtions and Artists Showcase in Winnipeg 12 years ago. During this time I have raised my children as a single parent and now I am a proud grandparent who loves to be involved in their lives. I have since transferred the stores to my children but still design and create the authentic clothing for the stores

I have the privilege to sit on five important boards (MPI, Efficiency Manitoba, ATTELEC, Social Services, Manitoba 150 and the Winnipeg Police Board. This valuable experience will help guide me as an MLA.  I proud to have been nominated and received the Indigenous Leadership Award and the BMO Expansion and Growth Business Award and the Canada 150  Medal.

 

 

 

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

I have covered the entire constituency and have listened to the local issues and they are wide ranging from education, childcare, healthcare, taxes, affordability.  We need to find balance to address these issues today with burdening our next generations.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I would be my honour to serve the constituents of Fort Rouge. Those that know me know I will work tirelessly to be their strong voice for them as we move Manitoba forward.
