Questionnaire Response

Donovan Martin - Notre Dame

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

Manitoba has a meth crisis and I’m committed to making the community safe for our kids and our community. I know what it was like to grow up in Notre Dame when the community was free of meth. I’m running because I believe every member of the community should feel comfortable in their own home and community.  I see the violence in our community increased significantly under the NDP where we were branded the murder capital of Canada. Under the Pallister government, we’ve seen the crime and homicide rate in 2019 exceed that of the NDP regime. I’m running because we need a new way forward. I’m running because we need to fix our broken health care system, reduce our income tax on our paycheques, reduce daycare wait times and put in place programs and resources that improve the lives of our seniors and our youths.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I am the only candidate who has deep roots in the Community. I attended Wellington school, Sargent Park, General Wolfe and D.M.C. I. No other candidate can say that! As a matter of fact, the P.C lives in Brandon and the NDP has never had any ties to the community.

Manitoba has a Meth Crisis and keeping our kids and neighbourhoods safe is my priority.

My boss Robert Falcon – Ouellette is the Chair of the Meth Task Force and working closely with him which gives me a great understanding of the problems and solutions Federally and how we Provincially plan to tackle them. This problem is destroying our families, devaluing our property and leaving the playgrounds and schoolyards covered with used needles.

It’s important we elect someone that will not have to play catch up on the Meth Crisis. I am that person. That is is why I am asking that you put the safety of yourself, your pets and your loved ones first and vote for me, Donovan Martin to be your MLA for Notre Dame.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

  • Addressing the Meth and Opioids Criss
  • Keeping our kids, homes, and neighbourhoods safe
  • Review the income tax taken of our paycheques and other taxes. We pay some of the highest taxes in the county.
  • END RATIONING OF HIP AND KNEE REPLACEMENTS: Recent figures from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) show Manitoba’s wait times for hip and knee replacements are the worst in the country and have gotten worse under the Pallister PC’s. A Manitoba Liberal government will improve wait times for hip and knee surgeries in Manitoba.
  • COVER LIFE-SAVING DRUG COSTS: Reinstate the Life-Saving Drugs Program that paid the total costs of drugs necessary for many Manitobans to live. When the government cancelled the program, many Manitobans faced increases in deductibles of hundreds of dollars a month for drugs they need to keep themselves alive.
  • AFFORDABLE, CHILDCARE FOR ALL MANITOBANS: Many parents face waiting lists for childcare so long that they would need to put a name on a waiting list well before their child is born. A Manitoba Liberal government will create 18,000 childcare spaces to eliminate the waitlist for childcare spaces in Manitoba and ensure there are more spaces as demand grows.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

JUST THE FACTS – Under The NDP Regime

  • Manitoba was labeled the murder capital of Canada
  • Notre Dame had some of the highest crime rates for theft, burglary, and vandalism.
  • Increase the PST
  • Ballooned the debt to the highest in history
  • Taxed your home insurance and hair cuts
  • Long hospital wait times
  • A broken CFS system that seen hundreds of kids in care
  • Increase Property taxes
  • Increase Hydro rates
  • Increased M.P.I and auotpac rates

When you go to the voting booth ask yourself these questions. If the answer is yes to all of these choices then you know who you are voting for. If you answer no to any of these questions, I ask that you consider voting me.

  1. Are you better off?
  2. Are you happy with the amount of money you take home?
  3. Are you ok with your children’s schools and playgrounds being used to discard used drug needle?
  4. Do you really want to elect another NDP candidate that has strong ties to Greg Selinger?
  5. Are you ok with the boarded-up homes in the neighbourhood and seeing the value of your house decrease?
  6. Are ok with the cuts to healthcare and the long waiting time.
