Questionnaire Response

Danielle Adams - Thompson

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

I decided to stand for office after watching the Pallister attacks on nurses, teachers,
front line government workers and labour in general and watching as Kelly Bindle stood
silent while 500 union jobs left our community and listening to him support his
government as they pitted union against union in an attempt to destabilize the solidarity
of healthcare workers. Kelly did nothing to help me when I fought for additional childcare
spaces here in Thompson and he did nothing to assist the people living and working
along the Bayline during the 18 long months they were cut off from the rest of the
province. I am running to protect our heathcare system, our children’s
education and our Northern way of life and I commit to working tirelessly to speak up for
the people of Thompson and all northern communities. I will ensure that the voices of
our Indiginous partners are heard loud and clear in the halls of the Legislature.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

I would like the voter to think about their vision of Northern Manitoba. Pallister has shown his colours and is attacking working people from all angles, while protecting his rich friends and business contacts. Now that he has cut healthcare, education, and important Northern programs, Pallister is floating the idea that we should privatize Manitoba Hydro and I remember how our phone bills increased after the PC’s sold off MTS to their rich friends. He is test driving disbanding MPIC, so that his friends and partners in the insurance industry can get rich off your increased premiums. And Mr. Bindle’s record shows that he will not stand with you and your pocketbook on these issues.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

I have been a long term advocate for more good quality childcare spaces and I will continue to champion this basic need. I  will work with all legislators to encourage a change our approach to negotiations with First Nations peoples and will continue to advocate for the adoption of the principles presented in UNDRIP. I will work to have an after hours clinic set up here in Thompson to reduce the burden on our hospital emergency room. In general, I commit to working tirelessly to speak up for
the people of Thompson and all northern communities. I will ensure that the voices of our Indiginous partners are heard loud and clear in the halls of the Legislature and I will continue to listen to each and everyone of you to find out what really matters.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I love the north with its ruggedness and diversity. I was raised here and I want it to remain a vibrant and strong part of Manitoba with economic opportunities for everyone who wants to live here. A vote for me is a vote to keep this a strong and viable community for many many years to come.
